Beacon Blocks can only function when they are added on the top of a pyramid, and when not being blocked by a solid block on top of the beacon. The GUI consists of a primary, and secondary effect selection screen, a material acceptance selection header, and the players inventory. The player must place the material (iron ingot, gold ingot, diamond, or emerald) in the header to activate the effects. When the material is placed, the player is free to choose an effect located in the primary effect screen. Whenever the player is in-range of the pyramid, the player will receive the effect. The effect(s) last forever, as long as the player is in range, wearing off 8 seconds after moving out of range. The selection and strength of the effects are enhanced by each layer added to the pyramid, along with the range of the beacon.
Beacons are a sort of defensive tool when placed on top of a pyramid made up of a mixture of diamond, emerald, gold, and iron blocks. They buff the player within a certain area-of-effect and lasts for a short eight seconds.
Pyramids can be as low as one level high using a group of nine blocks with the beacon on top. They can also be as high as four levels, using up to 164 blocks. The higher the level, the more buffs that can be acquired.
Right-clicking the beacon brings up an interface that allows players to choose what type of buffs the pyramid generates. To activate a new power, an iron ingot, gold ingot, emerald, or diamond must be used in the activation slot.

[/quote]Diamond. Again it depends on what level for example a level 4 gold beacon would be better than a level 2 diamond beacon.
